Hush Hush is proud to present 'dont mind me' (HH099), the 3rd EP and Hush Hush debut from lostodyssey.
The alias of Hawaii-born, Eugene-based musician Jameson Williams, lostodyssey's musical journey began with the piano as a child. His teenage years and early 20s found him playing in tech death metal and thrash bands in Portland and Eugene before fully diving into a solo project. A far cry from the aggressive nature of the bands he was previously playing in, lostodyssey embraces a subtle and nuanced sound, finding inspiration in the lush natural textures of the Pacific Northwest. A heavy reliance on self-sampling, borrowed instruments, field recordings, and DIY production techniques have come to define the lostodyssey aesthetic found on his 2014 debut EP 'Early Rise' as well as his 2016 sophomore EP 'THISDREAMSUCKS.' Both EPs and a few stray standalone singles along the way have offered strong glimpses into his dreamy sonic world full of atmospheric, emotive, richly-textured downtempo beats.
lostodyssey now joins Seattle's Hush Hush Records for the latest showcase of his magnetic lo-fi sound, the 5-track 'dont mind me' EP. An overarching feeling of isolation and a desire for simplicity provided the driving force behind the EP’s creative direction. This seeped into the release's increasingly intimate and introspective nature, his intricate electro-acoustic beats now more spacious and defined. The release also finds lostodyssey adding his own soulful vocals more consistently atop his cinematic backdrops, yielding a personal, hushed, quietly powerful sound. Gently closing out with the instrumental-heavy widescreen track "good god," 'dont mind me' signals a bold step forward for the constantly evolving artist and paints a captivating contemplative picture across its filler-free 18-minute set.
