The debut EP from enigmatic duo TZECHAR.
The history of TZECHAR goes back about five years, to an account on YouTube and a cryptic, spastic Tumblr. The very first video lampoons K-Pop heartthrob Taeyang, chopping a video of his balladry into a twisted yearning for desserts. But as the idol goofily twitches and turns to his confectionery cravings, one can’t help but revel in the melodic textures of the remix itself. With ribbons of synths layered upon sheets of dark chocolate bass, this was beyond a simple remix; coupled with the video, this song was meant to be an experience.
TZECHAR would continue to bring their original eye to the world of Asian pop, effectively communicating in multiple tongues the absurdism and the artistry of pop songcraft with their brilliant videos and remixes. They would build a devoted following amongst other pop fans who could take a joke and understood the inherent ridiculousness of (pop) culture, building upon their own ambiguous mythology while playing with forms as ranging as grime, footwork, ambient, trap and noise.
